Think of two friends who lived nearby, but now one is moving away. They can create some entangled states that the friend who is moving can carry with him when he leaves, and then they can use those to teleport things back and forth.
If we tried to define a colloquial notion of teleportation it would probably have two main properties: That objects move from A to B without "passing" through the space in between and that it be done instantaneously, or at least very very fast.
Roughly speaking, our teleportation schemes satisfy the first property.
